Weight: 289
Workout: five rounds of 10 pushups and 10 lunges
I woke up this morning at 5:30, about 15 minutes before my alarm was due to go off. For some reason, when I wake up, I'm up. So I laid there, the 'Rita dozing peacefully beside me, and my eyes were wide open...I stared at the ceiling for about five minutes, when I decided to get up off my fat ass and start this odyssey.
I've been meaning to get started with this thing for quite a while. I just don't look good these days. I made an offhand comment to a friend yesterday along the lines of "I'm tired because I'm old and fat." Her response was, "You're not old." I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it, but it just reinforces what I've been feeling the past couple of years. Well, enough is enough. I've got a beach vacation next August, and goddammit, I'm gonna look good without a shirt when I go. This is a way for me to keep a log of how I'm working out, what I'm eating, all of that. I know all the studies say that those who keep a faithful log of foods and workouts are like four million percent more successful losing weight, so this is my way of doing it. Gonna need your help to keep me motivated.
Okay, so maybe the workout doesn't seem like much. Consider that I haven't done a lick of exercise, apart from a few long walks and my normal commute walks since just before St. Patrick's Day when I ran an 8k. And even then, directly after the 8k, my friends and I went out and got NASCAR drunk, negating any real benefit that the weeks of training might have given me. So I busted out 50 pushups and 50 lunges this morning. Consider also that my muscles shrank and my gut blew up, so I'm pushing more with less. The whole thing took about ten minutes, but it was tough, so fuck you. It will get easier. I'll try to post an entry here every Wednesday with my workouts and weight. My plan is to do one of these insane crossfit workouts four times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings; Saturday afternoons), and I've decided my weigh-in day will be Wednesday.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Consider that step taken. As John Landis would say, See You Next Wednesday.
